Salary Range - $69,501 - $113,982 per year

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:    This is advanced professional traffic engineering work and includes design and review of traffic signal system projects for the Broward County Traffic Engineering Division.  The position has the responsibility for the management of major ITS projects, and for the supervision of technical personnel engaged in operating a computerized signal system, including signal timing, designing and maintaining a fiber optic communications network and implementing a state of the art ITS facility.  Work requires extensive administrative knowledge and experience and involves the application of advanced traffic engineering skills and knowledge with opportunities to exercise considerable independent judgment in developing and completing projects.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in traffic engineering; or progressively responsible experience in professional traffic engineering work including considerable supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and training.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: Registration as a Professional Engineer.  Strong administrative skills are required

ITS Engineer III - Broward County Traffic Engineering

Salary Range - $58,970 - $87,446 per year

The Broward County Traffic Engineering Division has an opening for an ITS Engineer.  Work involves the planning, design and implementation of the County’s ITS Program, performing signal timing studies and will require some degree of supervision of engineering and other technical personnel. Work requires the application of advanced ITS engineering skills and knowledge, and adherence to established guidelines and procedures.

Broward County is currently designing and constructing a new and improved traffic signal system, including video detection, DMS, CCTV and advanced communications techniques to meet the growing operational needs of the County’s transportation network.  Broward County and the Florida Department of Transportation share a joint-use facility in order to maintain coordination and integration between the arterial and interstate traffic systems.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:  Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in ITS engineering or related field; four (4) years progressively responsible ITS experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and education.

This position plans, directs and coordinates activities and operations of the Engineering Department as well as oversees the provision of professional engineering and administrative services involving the administration, technical oversight, and inspection of development projects in the City, as directed by the City Manager.  The duties include review of development applications and ensuring project compliance with applicable laws and standards.  This position has primary responsibility for the Engineering Department in the development review process, serving as facilitator and representing the department for all development review meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         High School diploma or equivalent, and

·         Graduation from an American Board of Engineering Technology accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.  A Master’s degree in engineering, business, public administration or related field preferred, and

·         A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of professional civil engineering, including at least five (5) years in a responsible management capacity directing one or more major phases of a large public utility or public works, private, and/ or publicly owned engineering program or related field, and

·         Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Florida at the time of application, and must maintain a P.E. Certification throughout employment, or

·         Any related combination of training and experience.

·         Computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) experience preferred.

Under contract to the principal transportation agencies in the region you will lead the preparation of engineering reports, studies and analyses for: traffic operations, safety, access management, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and transportation planning. Demonstrated expertise is required in traffic operations studies, safety/crash analyses, design traffic development, interchange studies, signing and pavement marking design, and traffic design. Expertise in HCS and Synchro is required. Expertise in one or more of the following is required: VISSIM, Paramics, CORSIM, Arc GIS.

Duties:

• Responsible for managing the budget, schedule, project communications and documentation.

• Plan and direct the activities of professionals in the traffic/ITS group.

• Responsible for preparing technical reports that present complex data and analysis in a clear logical manner leading to justifiable recommendations.

• Lead or assist in contract pursuits and proposal preparation.

Qualifications:
